Default SMS while on a call

I searched for this in the forums but didn't find an answer.

I understand that everyone is all hyped up about the new iphone, but I had a quick question about how you are able to send and receive SMS's while on a call. I thought this was through your data plan.

What am I missing?

You are definitely able to receive SMS during a phone call. I'm not sure if you can send them because I have never tried but I assume if you can receive, you can send as well. Also SMS is not transmitted via data, you can have a phone without a data package but still send SMS.

Not sure how the message is sent, but its very possible. I do it all the time if I'm on my phone and somebody texts me.

The iPhone is an amazing "multi-tasker"

Well, I do know that SMS uses a separate network and can perform at the same time I am on a call. I also know that with 3G email will be able to do the same thing as long as you remain in a 3G coverage area. I have done this with the Tilt.
