Is it possible to make ringtones from something that I did not buy from Itunes?

Actually - you can't easily make a ringtone from something you HAVE bought from iTunes!

If you've got an up-to-date iphone and iTunes Apple has provided you with everything you need - you supply the sound in virtually any format and iTunes can convert it

Yes. It is very simple to create the ringtone and place it on your iphone if you have firmware 1.1.2.
