Reply to email, sending from wrong account? - iPhone 3G

I know there is a default account but it seems when I reply to any email the email is sent from that account. I have six email address from three different companies...it does not look too good when they are from a different account.

Any ideas?

You can set up gmail to reply from one specific account regardless of which one you use. I would suggest going that route.

Just go to the gmail page on your computer select settings and then accounts. You can then select which address to reply from.

Maybe I wasn't clear. i was suggesting gmail as an alternative.

IF you've figured out a way for GMail to respect default account settings via POP, please share... I can only reply as my @gmail.com username... not as my domain which I pass through gmail server. It's impossible to reply to lists that are subscribed on another account...

This doesn't make sense, I've NEVER seen a mail program act like this. If a message comes in from pop or imap and I reply to that message the mail should be FROM that account, not a default account. If there is no way to send the message from who it was too this is a MAJOR design flaw.

In my experience you can can only reply the account to which something has been sent. Not sure what default account does as it's a total number of new messages from all accounts in the unread icon on the home screen. When you create a new message, it will be from the account you are in as well - not your default.

If there some actual settings for the mail accounts you could either change your login and address info or at the very least set up a reply to.

Never mind, I'm an idiot. If you DON'T give an smtp server for an account it uses the default and I forgot to add it for this account so it was using the default. :P

That's an interesting observation about leaving the SMTP field blank and having it send from the default account. This is almost a feature we can leverage. Assume for a moment that yahoo push mail actually works

I have my personal email forwarded to my yahoo account so I can use push. I'd like to reply via my personal email, however. Since the iPhone mail app lacks the ability to fill in the "reply-to" field of email headers, this might be a workaround.

Here's the problem: when you setup a yahoo mail account on the iPhone, it just asks for your login and password... So it automatically sets up the SMTP. If I add the account as a custom POP account, will it still push?
