Question about new and old Iphone

For the current iphone users, will there be a version 2.0 firmware update that will run on current iphones giving us all the cool updates minus the 3G and GPS of course, or will these new features only be available on the new model?

Update for current iPhones, the only thing we will be lacking is the 3G. We will be stuck on the Edge network.
