Problem with Email on iPhone-SSH?

I have my Mail setup on the Mac to use SSH encryption and for authentication to use Password. It easily works while getting email on the Mac using Apple's Mail program.
When I set up my iPhone with email it copied all my email accounts and settings over but when I checked email it would not get email. I then turned SSH encyrption off and the iPhone got email fine.
This has fixed my problem but my question: How important is SSH encyption? If its not the easy solution is for me to turn it off on the Mail program. Yet if it's important how do I get it to work on the iPhone? The settings appear to be the same and it works on Apple's Mail program but not on the iPhone. Thanks for any help.
