Old iphone - iPhone 3G

My friend wants to give me their old iphone, while they get the 3G. Is there any way that I can immediately switch phones? I have a Razr right now.

You have to activate it in iTunes and set up a iphone data plan before it will work with your sim card. I wouldn't advise doing that today though. The apple activation servers are completely slammed. Just wait a couple of days, visit an at&t store and get a new sim card, and then activate your new iphone.
