So when someone not on at&t sends you a text the message goes out on the cell network to find your provider. The SMS servers are sending the text message to T-Mobile. The T-Mobile server is rejecting them since you are no longer active. So they are lost.
At night when the SMS servers all talk and trade info, the SMS serverd will get updated and see your number is now at at&t and start sending your messages there.
Give it time. It does not work as fast as moving the voice line.
