So we're taking about a 0.5G faster speed for the internet and a better camera, probably GPS integration. But besides that, it'll probably run the same new iphone 2.0 software as is being developed by the SDK?

I was going to sell mine on eBay and put the money toward the new one...seems almost a little stupid to drop another $150 or so on the new one if those are the only improvements.

Maybe I'll just wait a year for version 3?

0.5G speed improvement? Have you been living under a rock? 3G is much faster than the EDGE speeds the current iPhone is running. You cannot even start to compare EDGE with 3G. It's about 15 times faster, not 0.5 times faster.

I hit an average of 1500kbps on my company AT&T Tilt. If you're lucky, you can hit about 100kbps on an iPhone, maybe a little more if the wind is in the right direction.

Sweet... I was asking the sales rep at my local AT&T store about the new iPhone. He was very reluctant to say anything, but it was very evident that something is going to happen in June. Maybe they are getting ready to sell the current iPhone in pink

Oh boy. Lots of spam and lots of trolls to ban. What a fun time that will be.

wow rav, pretty harsh.

What I meant was...isn't EDGE 2.5G? so wouldn't that be a 0.5G improvement?

Way to jump down my throat.

The "G" in those stands for "Generation", it's not tied to a relational speed difference. It could be approximately .1 mb/s vs 2mb/s which would be a 2000% increase. A 15 times increase is a conservative guess. I'm sure you would have looked this up yourself, but it was probably taking to long to load the search page on your old timey Edge enabled phone.

If they release the new version in the next couple of weeks, it will be based on a later version of the 1.1 OS, not the new 2.0 OS, is my guess. Being that they are still aggressively changing interfaces in the SDK, I don't think the 2.0 OS will be ahead of schedule which would be late June, I think. So they wouldn't necessarily have to update iTunes to support any new features.

Haha.

Honestly, I thought it was self-explanatory, which is why I didn't do further research. I didn't know G was generation, but I figured it was a speed.

Now that I know, it is even more tempting to upgrade. I don't care about the camera or GPS, but I only got the phone at the end of February, so I figure I owe it to myself.
