I have had nothing bad to say so far about the iPhone, but this is actualy quite dissapointing.
I ran some tests and sure enough, it is like dial-up you cannot receive a call while browsing the internet. And, no it does not send it directly to vm. It rings away on the callers end but does not on the iPhone. Even after the page fully loaded often times the call would still never reach the iPhone, yet ringing away on the callers end.![]()
C'mon even my old-skool gsm phones would pause the browser for an incoming call, please someone tell me there is a fix?
And no, it is not because of my reception because I have full 5 bar excellent AT&T reception in my area, on my other phones every call comes through.
I don't know what carrier your talking about, but on the Cingular network, anything GSM including EDGE does not allow you to be on the internet or on the phone at the same time, however, 3G does allow you this capability.
The iPhone should automaticly stop your internet and let you take the call and if not forward it to your visual voicemail.
Do you have call forwarding enabled?
I'd have your phone checked out by someone at Apple because that shouldn't be happening.

Yeah, thats very odd, What SIM card are you using? A previous card or the one included in the iPhone and were you already a ATT/Cingular customer or did you port over?Does this only happen when your on the internet, do you recieve calls normally when not connected to the internet or using safari?
Is that with EDGE? For me, if I call my cell phone just as I'm reloading a page (so I know it is actually using the internet), it goes right to voicemail. If I'm just looking at a page that's finished loading, it of course rings because it's not using the data connection.
Okay I just did some tests. Your right.
With safari I am able to get the call (page finished loading) but when I use the youtube widget or I'm streaming something from there, it indeed does just goto my voicemail, no ring present. Sorry DUKEL. I didn't understand you at first but now I do. When the data is currently on and active the calls act as though you phone is off. Straight to voicemail no ring and it doesn't register you even got a call unless that person leaves a voicemail. Bah I was so used to 3G on my old phone I didnt notice it. Thanks for bringing this to my attention and my apologies for the mix up before. I guess most users dont even realize they got a call while their using the internet because most like me, just see it pop up when your on safari browsing and the page has loaded.
Nice catch man.
I have the same experience of iPhone letting call come through when on WiFi, but not if browsing on Edge. It goes to voice mail if I am actively browsing with the Edge network.

AFAIK, that is a feature of 3G, handling simultaneous voice and internet usage. The iphone is 2.5G, which is not fast enough to handle both.
