Ipod sounds issues?

My speakers work for ringtones, but when i try to listen to music on ipod part through speakers it doesnt work. What could the problem be

I am not sure this is the same situation but there is a switch built into the headphone jack and there have been several posts here about people not hearing music through the speakers. To fix it they plug and remove their headphones a few times and then it will work. The other posts I searched for didn't mention that the ringtones still worked through the speaker so this might be a different problem but that is a super easy thing to try so I recommend you do that first.
