Default iPhone V1 as iPod Touch

I know this has been posted, but I don't know the proper search terms to yield the results I'm looking for.

I got iPhone 3G, and my iPhone V1 said connect to iTunes for restore sometime later. So today I restore and update my V1 (I want to use it as a touch), but it's sending me to the AT&T sign up screen. How do I bypass this?

AT&T really wants you to give/sell that V1 iPhone to someone else to activate it so they can get a new customer. I had to activate and unlock my V1 to get it to work after I upgraded to the 3G.

Well Winpwn only supports up to 2.02, but I wasn't thinking and updated my V1 to 2.1 when I restored. I've now downgraded back to 2.0 and am downloading the 2.02 firmware so I can winpwn. Hope this works.

I had the same problem you have right now, I just pwned it on my mac and then it worked after I selected the custom firmware and stuff. Good luck
