I have a brand new 16GB 2.1 iPhone.
I was halfway through only jailbreaking and activating it (not unlocking it) with ZiPhone and it froze. So I unplugged the iPhone.
It is now stuck in recovery mode with the picture on the screen of the iPhone being plugged into iTunes.
When I plug it into iTunes, I get the message "The iPod sofware update server could not be contacted".
Please help as my phone is totally locked!
Oh, to save anyone the bother of typing out all the instructions, I've tried holding down the home and power key, etc., about a million times :-(
Any help you could give me would be so much appreciated.
Thanks a lot,

I have the same problem, I am stuck in recovery mode and iTunes recognizes it, but it gets stuck at the "waiting for iphone" stage and just sits there. I tried Ziphone , ibrickr, etc. and those wont detect the iphone. I can't turn the iphone off either, it just sits at the USB to itunes screen and just restarts itself to that. Only way to turn it off is to let it die. Is this a permanent hardware issue or can I get out of this? Any help is godly

You have to read what the picture says...

That will take you right out of any mode and make your iPhone normal again.
