I searched through the threads here first before posting this, but I did not see any with this *specific* issue. It has just started for me since installing the new iTunes, even though the first one or two times I sync'ed with the new iTunes it worked.
Basically, I"ll plug in the (first gen) iPhone, instead of popping up on the "sync" page it will just start doing it on whatever itunes window I'm in (like a playlist, for example). Then, it starts backing up. Gets half-way through and stalls for a bit...then gets 3/4 of the way through and stalls again...but never finishes.
The only way to move on is for me to X out of the backup and it continues the rest of the sync process without problem or hesitation.
I've already tried re-setting the iPhone and computer. Anyone have any ideas on why this is happening or how I can fix?
THANK YOU!
P.S. - I know this part is for the other forum...but since I'm on a first gen iPhone, is an upgrade to the new 3GS almost a "must" make move?
I was having the same exact problem. The only differnce was that I way less than halfway through when it would just stop. I read somewhere that apps like myspace can cause backups to be very slow. I deleted myspace and several other apps that I thought might take up a lot of memory. Now it syncs perfectly. I was having the same concerns as you because I preordered the 3GS. I wanted to make sure that I had a recent backup. Give it a try and let me know how it works out for you.
