Apple will not physically lock the phone. My friend had a phone delivered to him. Fedex left it outside the door and someone stole it. He called AT&T up and they told him they do not lock nor track IMEI numbers of stolen phones. They just canceled the SIM and sent him out another phone.

Interestingly enough, his neighbor had recently purchased the exact same phone as him, around the same time. He has no proof, but he's sure they took it and are using it.

It probably depends on who you get a hold of on the phone as to whether they track or block IMEIs

Without insurance, you're just out of luck. While Apple and at&t both have the capabilities of locating the device, neither wants to get into the recovery business. I can't say I really blame them either. One guy on here posted that he got his back, but that's the only one I can remember.

Save up your money for the next six weeks and buy you a new 3G version on 6/27.

At least I now have a better reason to get v2 than just wanting it.
Guys thanks so much for your answers, unfortunately they were what I thought they would be but I'll get over it.
