    Don't Panic

I had the exact same issue. And all I had to do was :

    1. Logout out and back into my machine (to make sure iTunes helper app started up again.)
    2. Open iTunes
    3. With iPhone connected via usb, press and hold the Power button and Home button for 15-20 seconds until the yellow triangle appears
    4. Then in iTunes it was there and I could restore

    Cheers,
    Alienlan

congrats on getting your phone back up and running! I know the feeling of thinking you broke it forever, however I dont think we have had a single BRICK here where the person never got it working again. :::knock on wood:::

Hey guys... I've had to take my iPhone back twice now. You DON'T need a receipt, they will pull all the information needed from their computers and your phone's serial number, or your name/phone number.

Yesterday my phone 'played' dead. The battery was mostly full from what I remember, and then the next time I picked it up to make a call it was completely unresponsive. Even plugging the phone in to the computer, or straight to the electrical socket had zero effect.

Today, however, I'm getting signs of life after plugging it into my computer. I got the same error message that you did from iTunes, and it appears that iTunes isn't syncing with the iPhone at all, but my phone is charging, and it is functioning at the moment.

I couldn't tell you why my phone is acting this way. I haven't put any stress on it, and I haven't tried to jailbreak it either. The only thing that I've done is added a dozen or so legal applications.

A few days ago my phone was stuck on the startup screen "apple logo" .. so I manually shut it down and did a force restore with iTunes. In the process I lost all my contacts b/c my backup was corrupt. Wonder why this happened, and if it's related.
