Hmmmm.... Sorry, I don't really think the jail break (unlocked) phones have any luck with Apple's warranty.. It clearly says that unlocking voids the warranty. You may search through this forum if anybody had any luck.

I used a Razor Blade. Was actually pretty easy.
I did take mine back to the Apple Store and exchanged for a new one, since I wasn't able to fix the Water Damaged TouchScreen. Got a new one with no Question ask, even with the scotch tape holding the Antenna Cover on.

There is another -software- solution for broken volume button. This solution disables the volume buttons (ONLY in 1.1.3 and 1.1.4! NOT 2.0+) and worked perfectly for me.

Unhappy SBSettings Volume Control Widget

For those who have jailbroken I installed SBSettings Volume Control Widget off Cydia and it seems to be working. You just tap the status bar (apparently you can slide your finger across it too but this has never worked for me...), which is the bar up the top that displays the battery etc, and click on volume to change volume settings to your hearts content. So far so loud.

The only flaw I have noticed is that if I fire up BossPrefs the 'ringer' volume control goes back to its usual tricks. I guess BossPrefs might cancel out SBSettings or something. So basically if you go with the SBSettings volume slider widget, never open Bossprefs (and even if you do you can just reopen SBSettings anyway..)!

As I say, I haven't tested it out comprehensively but it's worked well for me thus far. My broken volume button works ok if I twist the iPhone at a weird angle so there is a possibility that I have just temporarily knocked the volume control key back into place during testing or something.
