Iphone 1st Gen - Iphone Touch

Like many people I have an old first generation iPhone that I got from my brother-in-law because the power button does not work and has some charging issues. It works fine when it is charged and I can surf the internet via wifi, email, app store, use apps,music etc...everything but the phone part which is fine by me. The problem is when it is left alone either away from the computer or charging in the usb port overnight it goes back to the broken apple on the screen and the only way to get it to work again is by opening iTunes. I just want to use it as an iPod Touch basicly. Is there something I need to do? Of course since it is a iPhone it keeps trying to activate. There has to be thousands of old 1st generation iPhones that are going to be turned into iTouches!

There has to be away to fix it (jailbreak it, etc...) as just an iPhone Touch or as I call it a iPouch

If not I guess I will be seeing what an iPhone looks like inside

I would restore it to factory settings and the jailbreak it. Jailbreaking it should activate it.

I did restore it to factory setting works like a champ most of the time until it goes to sleep or whatever it is called. I have it set to Auto Lock never thinking that would fix it and although it helps it still comes up with broken apple after left alone for awhile.

Been awhile since I jail broke an iPhone. How once again do I do this? I did it the first year for themes for my brother-in-law and he and I were over it after about a month? Had to figure out how to install a theme though at the time

Please point me somehwere that can tell me how to jail break again! It has been awhile! Is it still Ziphone? Or whatever it was called?

I also restored the phone to the NEW 3.0 software if that is an issue!
