Default How to make the switch from iPhone V1 to V2?

Hey guys...
Not sure if anyone remembers me, I have been inactive for a little bit, but Im back with iPhone fever again...

But I want to reach out to you guys to help me out a bit with a question I have.

My plan of action as of now is to sell my iPhone on ebay and in the meantime use my old phone until I can get my hands on a new one.
I had a disaster of a time getting my first one, but it had to do more with AT&T and contracts and etc, which is somewhat what my question is based on.
1st off, my iPhone is not jailbroken, and I didnt intend on jailbreaking it... but i guess if it gets me more money, im all for it, but I dont know how.

So, my question is...
Can someone outline the process that I should go through starting with Jailbreaking and leading up to buying the new one.
I guess I will jailbreak it and then sell it on ebay, but I have NO CLUE about specifics, i.e. what to do with the SIM Card, how to make my old phone work again for a month, what to do about billing...

Thanks,
FlyersPhanatic9

Hey join the crowd... I just sold mine on Craigslist!

You should remove your sim card before you give it to them. I did a restore too and set it up for a new customer not a backup.

I would Jailbreak and Unlock with Ziphone. You can download it at www.ziphone.org.

I just put mine on Craigslist the other dau and I got a ton of people wanting it. Maybe settle for a little less that Ebay but I didn't have to ship it and I have the CASH in my hands tonight!

Good Luck!

So am I getting this right?
1) Restore iPhone
2) Jailbreak it
3) Remove SIM card
4) Sell

What are my options if I dont jailbreak it...?

You can still sell it if you don't Jailbreak and/or Unlock you just won't get as much money from the auction. People are still under the impression that the iPhones are impossible to unlock so they're willing to pay top dollar for an unlocked one.

Your steps look good though.

Whats the difference between Jailbreaking it and Unlocking it.
With my original one I just decided not to do anything to do it because It was so new and I didnt want to take any risks of bricking it...

Unlocking it allows it to be used on any GSM provider worldwide. Jailbreaking it allows you to install third party apps via the Installer.app system.

Youngbinks answered pretty much ALL of my questions, and I think im gunna use ziphone to jailbreak and unlock...
The only thing im still a little cloudy about is what I do when the new one comes out... So if anyone knows a TON about AT&T and their policies, I might need a little help.

Is there any way of avoiding another 2 year contract with AT&T when the new one comes out and I activate it?
And I mean this without jailbreaking/unlocking it... because I dont plan on doing it for my V2...
Is there a price you can pay to like upgrade and just keep the same contract or do you have to make a new 2 year agreement on a new contract?
This is the only thing im confused about.. just trying to plan ahead.

Nobody know these answers right now. Going to have to wait until the phone is released.
I would like to think current iphone owners with ATT will be able to upgrade without a new contract. The catch may be if ATT sells the phone at a cheaper price then you probably have to up for another two years. The other option might be pay full price for the phone and use your current contract. This is just me speculating and we will just have to wait and see.

Oh alright.
In that case, thanks for all the help everyone.
If anyone has recently sold their Used 8 GB Jailbroken/Unlocked iPhone on eBay, would you mind posting the price you sold for here?
Thanks,
FP9
