I don't understand why everyone's being so smug about other ppl who want to turn the friggin' ipod program off on their iphone. PAUSE does not equal OFF. Whether you're concerned about memory, or battery life, it shouldn't matter. And besides, I've been having a problem where if I'm listening to a song thru the ipod, and I put it on pause (everyone's fav solution), and then go to watch a long youtube video... a few minutes into the video, the ipod turns itself on, interrupting the video. It's really annoying. Thanx for explaining how to turn the damn thing off!

That is how you turn it off....by hitting pause.

You don't like it, obviously, but theres nothing you can do about it. Don't go around yelling at people for helping when they don't give you the solution that you want.

PAUSE = OFF in ipod world.

Yep, that works! My problem has been that I keep the original headphones plugged in, and they have that mechanical pause/play button on the little mic. When that button gets hit in my pocket, the iphone starts playing again. But this solves the issue, thanks.

Uhh you can force quit the ipod app.

Anyways if you jailbreak you can install sbsettings which allows you to kill processes like safari, ipod, and mail quickly and easily from ANYWHERE.

Hold the HOME button down for 8 seconds until the ipod app closes. I dont see why you guys dont want it to pause.
You can select the last song on an album and bring it to 1 second to the end and when the song finishes there is no music so its the same as "stop" I guess.

I would have just given up on the whole thing and accepted that the pause button is the stop button on Planet Apple, if it wasn't for the above post.

Lincoln, I have tried this but I don't have a "library" option in the iPod menu. Can you elaborate and possibly post a screen shot?
