Having troubles with my phone (very new to iphones)

So I bought an iphone off of ebay from an online store. I got it today, put my sim card in, and notice that it doesnt come on, so obviously it needs to be charged. I decide to try my wall mount charger, i plug it all in, hit the home key and it shows the charging icon. I go upstairs take a shower, come down and its still charging. Ten minutes later the screen has gone black, from here I'm guessing that its in some kind of sleep mode. I press the home key and nothing, so I hit the power key, and it comes back on still showing its charging. Ten minutes later... it goes off again... and it keeps doing this. I also noticed when I turn it on its not showing the time, or the slide key like others I have seen. I may be just really stupid and its charging and I don't know it... but it seems to me like I'm doing something wrong, or something is wrong with the phone. Can anybody help? I've tried googling and I come up with nothing.

    Thanks.

When you bought the phone, was there anything written in the description about it being faulty in any way?

When you have the phone plugged in to a wall charger, hold down the power button and the home button, release them when you see the white apple logo.

Also, have you plugged it into your computer to see if iTunes detects it? If so you may need to restore it. But if you need to have it unlocked for whatever reason then stay away from the restore, as you will need custom FW to preserve the unlock.

Ok, I have itunes on my pc, I plugged the phone into usb, and it doesnt seem to detect it. I have at&t so the unlock isn't really a concern to me.

and no, there was nothing about the phone being faulty in the description, it said it was unlocked and jailbroken. I tried plugging it into the wall and holding down the power and home key and it just goes off... kinda mad at this point.

Are you sure it is a genuine iPhone and not a clone?

If your sure...put it in DFU and plug it in, iTunes should recognize an iPhone in DFU and tell you to restore it.

I'm frustrated, I went to at&t today and got a new sim card, to see if that would work, and still nothing. I'll try the DFU thing, hopefully that works. If not I'll contact the Ebay seller. And as far as it being a clone, it says iphone on the back, has the apple logo and the copyright... so im guessing its real.
