Ahh yes, I remember it well.
I was in the market for a new smartphone and was thinking of getting a T-mobile Dash using winmo. I had heard of this "iphone" thing coming out from apple and having a 3rd gen ipod i figured it might be a pretty good device, something about it being ALL touchscreen just deterred any thoughts of wanting it at all. I work with a winmo touchscreen device at work everyday and it's made to withstand the elements but most of the time is just crap, so I wasn't too excited about touchscreen.
I was one of those guys, a naysayer, I was talking to my wife and my friends about getting this new dash and how great it would be and all and downtalking the iphone as "another touchscreen peice 'o crap".
Then the day came...iday...
I got home from work that afternoon around 3-4pm and flipped on the television to one of my favorite show's "Attack of the Show" (AOTS) on the G4 channel.
Ahh, what's this? They are demo'ing the iphone and going on and on about the huge lines forming all over, and playing with thiers on the show and touching and swiping and pinching and pulling and flicking....every movement made had me mesmerized and every second that passed while my eyes where glazed over from the glow of the tv, the once lusted after 'Dash' was swiped, flicked and pinched out of memory.
I had been bitten by the iphone bug and immediately caught up into the hype!
Thoughts stirred over and over in my head as I spent pretty much the rest of the evening watching re-runs of AOTS and sucking in every bit of info that I could find through tv and/or internet. The main thought I was trying to fight back thinking about reeled over and over in my mind..."How the hell are you gonna tell your wife you now want a $600 cell phone!?!?!"
The dash which was gonna cost me around 2-250 at the time had been completely forgot about by now. I tried to tell myself, just get the dash and forget about all this mess, the hype will boil over and simmer down and major problems will be discovered and it will end up being a failure.
I forgot to mention, that before I had been infected by "i" that I did not have a home computer with internet access and was visiting the library everyday after work looking up smartphone specs and features on nearly every phone available in the states, considering unlocked phones and anything that would give me internet access in my pocket. The concept to me was just cool, I don't need a home computer, I can have the internet in my pocket or on my belt within' arms reach almost anytime, anywhere I wanted!
Anyways....Weeks later, after iday had occurred I was still hard at research in the library. Of course now something had changed, my query had changed from "any cell phone out there that met my needs" to one word "iphone".

What I found at this site immediatley answered any and all questions I had about the iphone. Greeted and welcomed from many many friendly people in the coming weeks. I was hooked. This was it, where I would make my online home...hompage set! I still to this day, check this site each and everyday either at home on my desktop (that I now have, thanx mom) or on my T-Mobile Sidekick3 (thanx dad, gave me this when he got his new shiny 8525 =/).
It's been a great ride so far and I still get excited about the thought that I WILL have an iphone shortly after our contracts with TMo are up! The countdown and the saved money (in and out, damn bills) keep me looking foward to my iday everyday. Along with reading all of your informative and entertaining post about your experiences throughtout the year with your iphones and just being part of a great site with so many great people!
So my thoughts after a year? Yea, ya know, that phone's not so bad after-all it seems.
