Default golf skycaddie for iphone

are there any applications that would have a skycaddie that you could have on your iphone? You could use your iphone as a skycaddie that would give you hole layout and distances. i think this would be a great feature for the iphone.

I haven't seen anything like that, but that would be awesome! So far the only golf app I've seen is a scorecard app.

old post bump...

With the new 3g iphone coming with GPS I guess this is a possibility now. Has anyone heard of any applications being developed?

Just be patient. With the new version and GPS tracker, we should see something like this soon.

I dont see why companies like Tom Tom and Skycaddie would make software for phones when they make money selling their own hardware. Why buy a Tom Tom GPS when you can buy just the software for your phone?

I was thinking the same thing but think of it this way. On a given skycaddie or tom tom that costs $350 its probably $300 for the hardware and $50 for the software. The hardware costs these companies money to produce. If they sell only the software for $50 or even $75 and can keep thier profit margins near the same, they can cut way back in production costs and staff.

I think these people that think the tom tom app is going to cost $10 are out of thier mind. I would expect it to be from $50 - $100 and would probably pay that given the cost of a standalone unit.

I hear where you are coming from but I think my theory above also kinda makes sense.

I would say development of the software costs alot more then the hardware costs.

It is all about price points. I think SkyCaddie would be nuts not to offer an App Store version for $49 or even $99. I'd buy it for $99, but not more.

Also, there are plenty of on non-iPhone users to buy the regular hardware.

This is at the top of my App Store wish list, along with sometime of Remote Desktop Connection so I can get into my office computer.

I just found this for the blackberry devices while doing a quick search

http://www.itinerantsoftware.com/pro...gn=GreenFinder

I guess if they can do it on there, they will be able to do it in the iphone.

I think the Skycaddie devise is fine for its use. I do not think I would want to use my iPhone as my Skycaddie. It gets all dirty and sweaty and stuff while I play golf. (I also do not use my iPhone in the gym for this same reason).

As for the app being produced, I thought that the GPS in the iPhone was not real GPS (like it still uses cel towers for triangulation), so I am not sure if it would work with the Skycaddie satellites. I also could be wrong about this info on the GPS in the iPhone. I will search for the thread.
