Just a thought, I dont have my Iphone 3g yet.

With the GPS function on the iphone and the blue dot that shows your location, can you pull up a view on google maps while on the course? I was thinking it would be pretty cool to use the satellite view on maps and the blue dot would show where you are on the hole. I know this wouldnt give yardages but it would be cool to be able to see the layout of the hole and where you are on it.

Anyone know if this works this way?

You can use the google map to see a basic idea of the course, assuming the course is in a location the full detail view of he map is available. The GPS location (blue dot) on the map will follow you as you move.

One cool app would be to be able to mark a position and then be able to see the distance in yards from that mark. So that you can see when you have a long drive.

The app is done, and we are just waiting on apple at this point.

You can now access our website to request that your favorite courses get added, and we will be working to add requested courses up until the approval finalizes and the app gets added to the app store.

After looking at our currently available courses ( http://www.golfmapz.com at the bottom left, where you select the state your course is in) you can use the following form to request that your course gets "gps enabled".

We are trying to push our requests within 24-48 hours of being requested.

This is going to be sweet! My club is on here! So are others that i frequently play! Keep us posted. Any screenshots you can share in the meantime?

do you have a current GPS product for golf? Your collection of data for 4,000 courses wasn't just for this was it? How do you collect that data?

No, not just for this purpose. We are launching similar devices for other platforms as well, but we will not be making our own hardware distributed product. We believe that gps via phones is going to be the only option many people will accept in the future, so we dont want to pursue that other saturated market at this time.

We will post screen shots and more information as soon as we can put it up on the app store.

Can you comment on the accuracy of the iphone GPS? Im not sure if its true but I have heard that the iphone GPS isnt as accurate as those found in the dedcated golf GPS devices. Something like Skycaddie is +/- 1 yard while the iphone is +/- 5 yards. You can see why this may be a concern as 5 yards can make a difference on the course.

Can you comment on this?
