That's what I thought. I do not know the proper terminology.

Well my understanding is that iPhone GPS will use the cell towers as opposed to "real" GPS like SkyCaddie technology. *shrug*

I wouldn't want my iPhone on a golf course anyway ... too much dirt. Plus it might get damaged with all the clubs being through -- if you get my drift.

the iphone has a gps chip in it, which means real gps. the phone can use triangulation through cell towers or it can use gps from satelites.

The iPhone uses A-GPS. It first uses cell towers and wifi to get a rough area of where you are first while GPS gets info from the satellites for a true fix. It is both faster and more accurate than regular gps.

I don't know where most of you play golf. I guess I'm blessed with living on the Monterey Bay area, but I don't do all that much sweating when I play. I would love to have the Skycaddy on my phone. I don't use the Skycaddy now because it's very cumbersome, to me anyway.

    I hope it happens.

Florida. I get sweaty before I even swing a club. LOL!

I'd be very interested in a SkyCaddie app for the iPhone. (I'm sweaty in Florida also)

Skycaddie not coming to iPhone anytime soon

I've emailed them and it doesn't look like they like the iPhone GPS chip.

Peronally, I think they should do it with a disclaimer. I'm betting:
    1. Many golfers would accept this level of accuracy for the convenience
    and
    2. Someone IS going to do this App, and they'll miss out.

    Here is my email:

I was wondering if there is any inkling to do an app for the iPhone. Come on guys, it’s a natural fit!

    Chris

    And here is their response:

Subject: RE: Sky caddie on the iPhone

    Dear Chris,

Thank you for contacting us and your interest in SkyGolfGPS!

As you are aware, GPS accuracy for a golfing application is extremely important. Our receivers use precision grade GPS specifically designed to provide accuracy between +/- 1 - 3 yards. The GPS available on other receivers, such as the iPhone, use standard recreational grade GPS with accuracy between +/- 3 – 8 yards. This accuracy may be fine for hunting, fishing, and mapping applications but their accuracy is not sufficient for golf.

If you have additional questions or we can be of further assistance, please let us know.

    Regards,

    SkyGolfGPS Customer Support
