Default going native

when 2.0 hits do you think the guys/gals that have developed apps for jailbroken phones will go native and go with the apps store.....even charge for what is now free?

Some may switch, for most applications the SDK will work for them, but for some like Fring or Apollo that run in the background a jailbroken App is the only way to go.

Personally I will, but Installer already does a good job.

I think both camps will coexist on the same device. I also believe the apps we've grown to love, if ported to the Appstore, will still be free or very cheap. But I also suspect they will pale in comparison to the stuff that costs $$$. I don't think most apps will go over $20, but as in most things... you get what you pay for.

But I'm still looking forward to jailbreaking past June. I hope the interest never dies off.

One good sign I've seen of late from several popular developers (e.g. Moo Cow Music, who make Pianist, Drummer, Guitarist) is the approach that existing jailbreak apps will remain free, but they'll probably develop a 'Plus' or 'Premium' version for the App Store.

I think this is a good approach - as it leaves them where they don't take away your favorites if you don't want to pay for them, but offer you the choice to move up to Premium, paid versions if you like the apps enough to do so ...

well all i know is that its going to suck when all of the GREAT apps that will be developed could turn out to be subscription based. i mean do you think that is a possibility? I could stand a one time fee but not a recurring charge...

well in my experience there are very few programs that have a recurrent charge. On the pocket pc, palm and blackberry its rarely seen.

Only ones that tend to do that are ones that access a server in order to work... like navigation software, music/movie/TV services, stuff like that.

I'll wait to see what goodies the SDK offers and if it's tempting enough then I'll most likely make the upgrade, though I have most any application now that I would want with the SDK (other than Slingplayer that is).
