Default Engadget stiring up trouble; claims iPhone delayed

http://www.engadget.com/2007/05/16/i...-until-januar/

I don't see why they would even make the claim that the iPhone is delayed until October... seems as false as can be.

Yeah, it seems unfathomable that Apple would allow the iPhone to be delayed at this point.

No worries...

I just read the article contained in the link you provided. It says that it was a false alarm and that they are still on track for a June release of the iPhone. Here is the excerpt:

"Date: May 16, 2007 10:47:39 AM CDT
To: [redacted]
Subject: NEWS: Disregard Bullet*News Sent May 16 at Approximately 9 a.m. Central--AP/CA/EU/JP/LA/US

You may have received what appeared to be a Bullet*News from Apple. This communication is fake and did not come from Apple.

Apple is on track to ship iPhone in late June and Mac OS X Leopard in October."

So as with all things new that garner this much media attention, it's not unusual for a bunch of rumors and other "speculation" to be floating around the net.

Cheers...

It would be just like them... send all us iPhone addicts into cardiac arrest! Lol.
I'm sure as soon as the email was sent out, SJ got it 'pushed' through on his personal iPhone, with awesome email cababilities and is at least 5 years ahead of any other phone, and sent out the correction email. haha.

Or maybe Engadget drummed it up themselves because their site traffic was down. Seems like a great was to generate traffic. Release a false rumour to yourself and report that the rumour is false. It's a trick they probably picked up from Dick Cheney.

Yeah, even when I first looked it didn't seem very likely. There is no way that after all these announcements and this speculation that they would delay it more than a few weeks, if that. I...hope...

I read something similar to this about them pushing back the release of the new OS version for macs, and misread it as pushing back the iPhone.
(I was reading an article on iPhone and not the new OS)

Felt a sinking in my stomach.

I recently got back from a vacation from Europe and all the signs that had "Free WiFi" made me wish I had the phone for the trip.

Oh well, next time.
