It took me 18 hours and three calls to AT&T, but I finally got the activation message. I'm an existing customer, and the error I got was that my old plan was not compatible.

i activated mine last night and it took like 5 mins but i just got this email today, how weird or that there just that busy

Same here. I had a small error and it took about 15 mins and one call to Apple, but then it was worked out. I just got the email today, although it said it was sent yesterday at 7:30 P.M. I assume they are all backed up with iPhone activations and such.
