Now the ringtones work fine on the iPhone. Also, I'm happy to learn about iRinger. It is certainly quicker than creating the r/t files manually.

Cool. I wonder why 7.6.1.9 was causing those problems. Maybe that explains why so many people were having this problem a few weeks ago.

1. Create a ringtone as mp3 (less than 30 seconds long).
2. Import into iTunes.
3. Convert to ACC.
4. Rename extension to m4r.
5. Drag the file into the ringtones folder.
You can then sync your custom ringtone with your iPhone. It works like a charm.
Have fun guys and gals! I'm so glad that I can finally use CTU as my ringtone.

Can anyone tell me a good program to edit MP3's or MP4's to 30 seconds in length....? Without using GarageBand....?

Audacity is an excellent open-source audio editing program.
of course, it is possible to do it in iTunes, but it is much more straightforward to use software like garageband or audacity.

I must not be downloading the right version of Audacity or something because everytime I open a sing and play it, it's either really jarbbled or playing in super super slo-mo..... I don't get it

Hey there I am trying to convert some ringtones from my old phone and am running into some problems. My old ringtones are in mp3 and wav formats. They imported fine into itunes, but everytime I try converting them to AAC they just show up as their original format. I never get to the point where I can rename the extension. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Thanks for any help

you can't do it directly in itunes. you have to view the file in a window, enable the viewing of extensions (if you haven't already), and then change it to *.m4r.
are you using windows?
