Calling problem...can anyone help?

So I just took off the little black piece on the back of my phone and took off the little piece protecting the speaker so that it would be louder. I kind of scratched up the back and now the cover wont fit properly but the problem is that whenever Im on the phone with anyone they hear their voice echo as they talk to me? Im getting the back piece replaced soon but I was wondering if this happened to anyone else and what else I can try to do? Thanks
