Default Beware!! Apple Stores Are Hording The Supply!

I have personally heard multiple horror stories that the Pleasanton Ca, and Palo Alto Flag Ship Apple Store on University Ave. were telling customers when they call that the stock just came in and if they hurry in they can get one.

I know of an executive that called first, the young lady on the phone said they had just received tons of them and to come on down. He drove over 20 miles to get there only to be told that they were sold out. He over heard two other Apple Store employees saying that they had them but were HOLDING them until Saturday.

Needless to say he was not happy to waste time and gas to go there after being told by the person on the phone that they had “tons” of them. This is not the Apple way, as a certified Apple tech I am ashamed at the Apple Store employees, and they are giving Apple a bad name.

He even went to the Apple Store manager who crossed his arms and admitted they had them and sold thier "allotment" for the day. 'm thinking yeah Jobs would really like to hear one of his managers at an Apple store say that. And this is coming from a guy who has over 10K in Apple products, recently purchased a 17" macBook Pro, I told him to take it back and to send a letter to Steve.

If they read this, they should get a clue, this is something Microsoft or Wal-Mart would do. Not classy at all…

I went to the Palo Alto Apple store on Saturday June 30th thinking they would be sold out just to look. I couldn't get my hands on one as the table was packed with people demoing the iphones. People walking into the store were being told they were sold out. I went to the back of the store and asked sales guy when the 8 Gb would be available he whispered to me that they just got a shipment in like he thought he might be mobbed with buyers. I bought one without a problem. I guess my timing was better than those late Friday shoppers.

I see no reason why they would restrict the supply. It's not like they can raise the price so why restrict the supply. I don't believe that they did this. I was in the store around 3:30 when I bought mine.

I support this executive for the last 3+ years, I know him very well and he would not make this up. He was on a business trip and could not be in line like everyone else, he understands that they may be sold out, he is ok with that.

Knowing that they can be sold out as soon as they arrive is understandable, but when an employee state that they have tons, and then you show up and they are holding some to sell on Saturday is not a Apple policy.

This is a rare store level policy, not an Apple policy over all.

My point is that it makes Apple look stupid, something M$ would do. No class at all. I am heading over there to talk to them later tonight or tomorrow, curious to see what is going on.

This could be true, but I haven't seen it. I went to a store to get another one and on the phone they said they only had the 4GB. I got there and when the guy went to get one, he came back and said they must have just got a shipment in they had some 8GB so I got that instead. There certainly wasn't any "hoarding" going on at that store.

I own an iphone and a wii! Ha!

Best advice for finding a Wii. check out this website. There is a user on there that posts retail store ads in advance. If you find one advertised, go wherever early on sunday, you will get one. He does Target, Best Buy, Circuit City.

Thanks for the tip. I'll check it periodically. I want a wii but it's not a high priority. I won't stand in line for a game system like I did the iphone.
