Also, this is big for me, I use Thuderbird email program and there is no option for synching or downloading that info into the phone it seems. So my contacts and whatnot on Thunderbird will have to be transferred some other way, manually it seems.
Mac or Windows?

In either case, you can export your contact list into LDIF or comma separated and import into Mail or Outlook (Express)/Entourage.

Um... this IS Apple we are talking about. If anyone thinks a new iPhone will be out in 6 months, you are smoking crack. Apple does NOT 'outdate' their stuff as quickly as many other things get outdated. This is a good thing. A lot of fan boys here, you people should know this.
That is one thing I've always liked about Apple... sure the laptop might be more expensive then a Windows laptop, but it won't be outdated by the time you get it home. I predict the iPhone2 will be out in MAYBE 2 years... right when all these contracts expire.
And a "cheaper" iPhone is at least one year away. They won't drop the price for awhile, just like with computers. So 12 months from now when it is still $499/$599, no one s going to feel ripped off.

Default Just want I thought

I just activate and snyc my IPhone the whole process took about 10 mins. I was an existing ATT customer so I just had to add the 20$ plan to my account. The process was smoother and easier then I had imagined it would be. I have played with all the feature including the Wi-Fi here at my house. I am extatic about everything. Apple delivered what they promised. I love my IPhone!!!!

Posted some early impressions here:

http://rittchard.blogspot.com/

FWIW, activation went really quickly (and as mentioned much easier than I'd imagined), about 10 minutes total, and this was at about 8:30pm PST last night which I assume was a peak period. I did a new activation though, so that might have helped.

iphonenewsblog covers which rumours and statements were true and which were false. Who was wrong or just a down right liar.

Safari crashes all the time (like on yahoo news most popular)
Google maps crashes regularly too
Email client is useless
No way to search
No way to sort by anything other than date
No way to copy stuff from contacts or calendar or web browser to e-mail messages
No way to organize e-mails into folders
No way to even mark e-mails as "read" without reading
Can't load any files onto the thing other than ipod stuff
Can't use it to carry documents home for instance
Screen shows fingerprints and needs constant cleaning with windex
Dry wipes don't do squat
Video player stutters, drops frames and crashes
Dinky headphones distort at any heavy sound
Can't use real headphones because the plug is recessed
Batteries don't last a full day of activities (e-mail, ipod, light phone)
Takes FOREVER to recharge

I'll give it another day or so to max out the ooo and ahhh from others, but mine's going back
