They might not want to jeopardize a great selling product, which is what it will be looking back 6 months from now.

To not buy a technology product when it first comes out because you fear a better one will come out later is self fulfilling. A better one will come out (it always does) But you will have the best phone on the market until Apple decides to one up themselves.
Agreed. Computers and things of the sort are outdated as soon as they hit the shelf. This would be like a band never releasing a cd, because they know that they are going to and can write better songs. No one would ever make an album.

Yeah but when you buy a CD you don't sign a contract that disallows you from buying any more CDs until two years have passed (without a paying up your contract or starting a separate one anyway).

with any phone you sign a contract. You can buy the next iphone when it comes out as well if you want and you won't be peanalized for buying this one... What are you whining about.

got my hands on it briefly today. Heavier than I expected. Really like the zoom feature. Typing (i'm usually a one-handed thumb-typer) will take some getting used to. Brushed metal back (now only if iPods came that way) Nice looking device. I'm sold.... not that I'll be allowed to buy one myself for months.

What makes you think you won't be penalised? I've never been offered an upgrade until my current contract has either run out or I pay it off.

I have two questions, sorry if they are already asked.
Do you need Apple TV to have Youtube on iPhone...i heard something about that, but I might be wrong.

And is anyone else bothered by the fact that there is NO instant messaging? I mean AIM/YM! would be amazing to have...is iChat going to be on the iPhone to allow these...or can you even do this on iChat(I'm a PC user).

Hope so, then I will get one. But even if it is the best phone, it has it's short comings. With EDGE speeds it takes 2 entire minutes to open Yahoo. And as one person pointed out in a review: "No point having a Ferrari if you can only drive it at 15 mph. As usual, weak infrastructure dooms innovation"

Then there is no IM chat, no direct downloads, mediocre call quality based on reviews of AT&T's poorly rated network. Too bad this was exclusive to AT&T. But I do look forward to hearing from those who are getting one today. All the best!

I heard that WIFI works well if you have good coverage. Otherwise, you will have to make the decision regarding the slow EDGE speeds. Iphone reviewers who tested it pointed out the very slow EDGE speeds. If that's a major issue for you, then perhaps you may want to wait for the next version, which will probably have faster data speeds and more memory. Just my opinion.

Here is an excerpt for the review:

"The New York Times’s home page takes 55 seconds to appear; Amazon.com, 100 seconds; Yahoo, two minutes. You almost ache for a dial-up modem"

The rest is up to you.

Alrighty Then!
Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Holy ****ttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Trying to Relax, but it is so HARD!
Went to the local AT&T store in this town of 23000. Drove by in the morning, no cars or people there at all. Came back at 1pm and nothing at all going on. Ran some errands, went back home for some lunch and then went back to the store around 2:45. Two people were now sitting in chairs outside the store.
One guy from insdie came out to talk to us and I told him an AT&T person on the iphone forum said about 200 phones per store. He said, no way! Not even close! He was not allowed to say how many, but we figured anywhere from 25 to 50 maybe.
At 6pm they came out and explained some things to us, which most of it already knew. He said they would only allow three of us in the store at first or each time three left, because of only three registers open in the store. He told us who we were going to work with, which I found odd. I went in, gave some info about my existing account and I was gone in sixty seconds. At 6pm there was now a whopping six or seven people outside the store in line with us. At first upon arriving I felt like an idiot for going and getting in this big line of two people ahead of me! but, when I found out there might only be a handful of phones available then I changed my tune and was happy to be there early.
But........the guy said tomorrow they are getting more phones I believe. So it was really pointless to wait in line for a couple hours.
Now to the phone itself. Not sure what anyone else here has said, but the only thing I am having trouble with is the email. I guess I just don't have it set up right yet. The Youtube button and speed and all was fantastic and worked like a charm. I searched a video I liked and it came up within seconds, two or three at most. I tapped on the result that popped up and the video started within seconds after loading. Went straight to the landscapes screen view itself. The picture is awesome to say the least, beautiful!
Took a picture of my son and his friend outside as we walked to the neighborhood ice cream store and it came out nice. Safari was cool to work with and easy to read the text or articles when you spread your finger tips on the screen to zoom in on a paragraph. I did not understand how to exit the web though and I think we just go back to the home screen. But when you do that and tap on Safari again to visit the web, the last page visited is still there, so maybe you need to exit it somehow but I don't know how yet. There was no button for exiting.
I love the options for ring tones and there are more than I thought we were getting to choose from. Do not understand the wallpaper feature at all, since you are mostly on the home screen with all the options or buttons most of the time. The wallpaper is only there when you turn the phone on, then you slide the slider over to the right and the home screen pops up. So the wallpaper is useless unless there is more to the story for me to learn. I love the wallpaper picture of the different colored rocks.
Also, this is big for me, I use Thuderbird email program and there is no option for synching or downloading that info into the phone it seems. So my contacts and whatnot on Thunderbird will have to be transferred some other way, manually it seems.
I think I am really, really going to love this little gem!

Enjoy,
Jeff
