ok alot of you people dont now what you are doing ill say nether do i but i have 3 yes 3 animated wall papers and i have a video background on my springboard i made the video background my self =) but any way if you really want to make 1 you are going to need to jailbreak your phone and download winterboard and after that i would go to 1 of the developers web site and write them a very nice email saying something along the line like i want to make a animated wallpaper slide show of me and my family can you send me the code or what ever you use so i can put together my one of a kind animated wallpaper thanks=) yeae but anyway you really cant do much with out being a developer your self so i suggest if you have a mac go grab the x-code program start making your own apps for a starter skill then learn how to work with linx and python but iam going on with no stop so iam glad i can help if any

Blue plasma in(Cydia)is animated and there is another that burns flames
at the bottom of the screen.

So its certainly possible.

it is possible but , it can slow down your phone , because it will be a very heavy file...
so i will not recommend you to use it

I was also looking to use animated wallpaper. I thought it is impossible. But looking here it seems possible. I will make a try to the above links. Thanks for sharing.

You can make them by a simple java script, I found one made in modmyi.com, and this act like a gif by using multiple images to create an animation, I made a stewie griffin dancing one.

This is also less taxing on the battery than a video, this can also be done without vWallpaper.

3 weeks ago you could have there is no way to modify your phone and look at it now.

I was wondering the same thing if you could have animated widgets (icons).

It would be cool.
