Default What the update for?

I connected today and a notice came up saying that there is an update for the carrier settings for the iphone. What does this mean? And what is it?

word around the campfire is that it just adds a couple of images onto your iphone. It has no effect on jailbreaking, unlocking, or performance.

Carrier images
Again use the search. There are several threads on this topic. In fact when this happened to me a month ago the first thing I did is search this forum and found the answer.
