Default My Video Settings

iPhone can play 640x480 video files. I have converted DVD movies to .MP4 with H.264 codec at 640x480 at 1000kb bit rate 29.97fps and they look great! File sizes range from 300-400MB per hour of video. I like encoding to 640x480 because my videos play full screen without black bars on left or right sides, but if file size is an issue encode 480x320 at a lower bitrate.

What program did you use? I'm having a hell of a time finding something that will let me convert DVD to 640x480 like you said. Most tools I tried are dumbed down and dont really tell me what the output is going to be.

I know aren't they, pretty frustrating huh? Tell me what you're using and what you're converting (dvd, recorded tv?) I use a bunch of different tools depending on what I need to convert. I haven't found a program that does it all, not yet that is

No way I could encode my beautiful widescreen movies to 640x480 that makes me cringe I just use there native aspect ratio and encode them for iPhone using visual hub because all my movies I like are already on my laptop anyway.

Right now I use Cladvd net and Super Converter. It seems to be working well. Both are free programs. I love Cladvd net better than DVD Decrypter because it selects the movie file for u. When it's done doin its thing u are left with only one file. I use Super over Videora cause Videora kept jackin up my itunes even when I unclick the sync with itunes option. Hopes this helps.

By all means keeps your widescreen videos widescreen. I just meant fitting them to 640x480 (letterboxed).

Thanks for mentioning Visual Hub! What a great program I just wish I had it sooner! I love the cropping feature w/preview and that it converts Windows Vista DVR-MS recorded show files!

I just want a way to take me from DVD to iPhone at 640x480. If I have to decrypt the DVD myself, thats fine too but if something could do this simply in one shot, that would be better.

Default Have you tried cucusoft?

Nuggets, Have you tried cucusoft?
I've been using it for a while for custom output without issues. I'm pleased with the product. (http://www.thevideolife.com/iPhone-convert-dvd.html)
