How do I go back to 3.0 software?

Shift Restore in iTunes, and select the 3.0 firmware. When its done, you will get error 1015...Open QuickPWN (3.0 beta) and follow the instructions and it will take it out of DFU mode, and you are downgraded.

Just make sure you don't do anything else in QuickPwn beyond what the first dialog box tells you about taking your iPhone out of DFU mode.

Error 1015 is failure to update the baseband...there is no updated baseband from 3.0 to 3.0.1 so it should just go through like any normal restore. It probably won't let you use your back up from 3.0.1.

All I am trying to do is unlocked my phone, can I still do this with the new 3.1 software?

3.1 (which is in beta right now) or 3.0.1 which is the latest official release?

If your using 3.0.1 then yes, it can be unlocked. Jailbreak with redsn0w and add cydia repo http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com then install ultrasn0w.

If your on 3.1 beta...you cannot downgrade your baseband, and it cannot be unocked at this time.

Step one the restore downloads, but when I hit shift and restore in itunes it does not show up for me to click in step 2.

Download the file to a place that is easy to find, like your desktop, click shift + restore, and then navigate to the file.

ultrasn0w works for both 3.0 & 3.0.1. They both have the same baseband, so there is no need to downgrade. Just download redsn0w to ur computer & jailbreak ur phone (don't install icy, only cydia). Then go to cydia & ad the source that shutter13 gave u. Then turn off 3G. Install ultrasn0w. Reboot the phone. Put the new SIM card in. That's all!!!!! Unlocks have become less complicated over time. Downgrading is pretty much useless now.
