Default Password Protection - Dataviz

read on...

I contacted Data Viz - the folks that do the PAssword Pluf program I've used on my PC & Treo

Got this response...
Hi Jim,

Thanks for your question. Typically we do not comment on future products. Of course a variety of our products have been considered for the iPhone, but I can tell you that I wouldn't expect anything in the near future.
Regards,
Web Development Group
DataViz, Inc.

Looks like they will be not in a big hurry - at least not yet

Default ok

Ok maybe I don't understand what your trying to say? Sorry if your talking about something else regarding password protection on the iPhone. But you can already password protect your iPhone? You know this right?

Default Password Protection program

Sorry - I didn't make my self clear.

There are several software companies that make programs that are encrypted and hold all your personal information, passwords, log-ins to web sites and just about any thing you want to keep but don't want someone to be able to gain access to.

The example for the palm
http://www.dataviz.com/products/pass...mos/index.html

There is a program that resides on the the palm treo's and one for the PC so when you synch any new info on the pc or treo is updated in the other. I live by this thing.

Hope that explains it -

a password keeper is one application i'd love to see on the iphone. i use splashID with my palm devices and hope that splash or dataviz or someone will make a similar app for the iphone. of course, apple first needs to open up the iphone to 3rd party apps...

As an FYI there is an online password "app" here:
jkpassword.com

There is a thread about it somewhere here on EIP.

I tried it and for me it won't cut it. You have to login to the site, and then login with an encryption key to see your data. And for an encryption key to be effective it really needs to be a non-dictionary, random-like, entry. Typing something like bM1kLzuu4.kT9FqW every time I need to lookup a password is not fun.

So for now I keep my PWs in a contact note (so I can sync it). I have set a passcode and it locks my iPhone after a minute, so for now this will have to do.

As for Dataviz, their email says it all. About all I used from them anyway was the included Docs2Go that came with my Palms (only to be bombarded with email from Dataviz wanting me to upgrade). Oh well...

I was aware of that - but I don't store my data on someone else's server.
Just a personal thing

The Day I got my Iphone I started storing some info in the contact section (day 1 of the iPhone)

The Dataviz App is awesome - looking forward to theirs for the iPhone

I wouldn't hold your breath. When a company says "anytime soon" I wouldn't hold my breath. But when they come right out and say something like "I can tell you that I wouldn't expect anything in the near future" I pretty much figure it ain't gonna happen. Time will tell...

BTW: jkpassword.com uses a very secure encryption mechanism, and no one but the user can decrypt their (own) data. I wouldn't have even looked at it until after I researched that aspect, and I consider myself paranoid when it comes to this stuff. But in the end it wasn't actually usable for me, so that was the real deal-killer.

Default Password Plus by Dataviz

I called Dataviz as well about an app for the iPhone. I was told they would consider it if demand was high. I suggest if you want to see an app you start calling them.
