Unhappy Mobile Mail Crash - unjailbroken iPhone

Hi Guys
Recently bought an iPhone off eBay.

Have restored it as a new phone and everything is working great, apart from mail. After working for a few minutes, it crashes.

Have read lots about this exact issue with jailbroken phones, but not unjailbroken ones. Normally you'd just go in and fix the permissions to 777 apparently. But in this case I can't get in to do that because it's not jailbroken and I really don't want to.

Any ideas on how to fix the crashing of mail on an unjailbroken phone? I've done two restores now - but the same problem emerges everytime.

Any help greatly appreciated!

What mail service are you using? Since restore isn't helping deleting the account and adding it back probably won't either but that takes less than 5 minutes. What model iphone is it and what OS are you running? You might try a hard reset by pressing and holding the power button and thehome button until after the phone shuts off and the apple icon appears on the screen.

Default Mail crash

Thanks very much for your reply. I'm using the latest iPhone update (3.01??) with iTunes on a Windows platform.

The iPhone is a 3G (no s).

The mail service is through a company here called internode. I've tried IMAP and POP with the same results.

No chance that the SMTP server that comes from the operator (OPTUS) could be causing the issue? Too bad if it is, I've read that you can't delete them anymore...

I'll try the hard reset but I'm not holding out too much hope.

Glad to hear you're using this: I plan to keep it much more aggressively up-to-date than has been the case in the past, but don't hesitate to let me know if you find errors or need clarifications.

I have no clue what you're talking about.

Back to topic: 3.1 is actually the latest update for the iPhone but I doubt it will fix your issue. Getting mail for a couple days and then losing it doesn't make sense so maybe going to 3.1 will help. I have a bellsouth account that I've setup to forward incoming mail to my yahoo account because I was having trouble with the bellsouth account on my phone. It works great but when I reply it shows up as a different address than what the person is looking for. I mean they send it to XXXXXXXX.bellsouth.net and I send back to them from XXXXXXXX.yahoo.com.

Yep, still having trouble. Have done a complete restore twice, hard resets, soft resets the works. Still comes back to the same problem with the internode e-mail. Any other ideas?

I have no idea. Since you've restored the phone as new and it still doesn't work all I can think of is to forward your mail from that address to some new address that you setup. I'm sorry my knowledge is limited on corporate issues. Good luck!
