Default Is it possible to go back to firmware 3.0 from 3.1, and once jailbroken can u unjail?

I'm no expert about the iPhone, but...I used to have tethering, and I upgraded to firmware 3.1, which means I lost it. Thought there would be more advantages to 3.1???

Is it possible to go back to 3.0, and if so, how would I re-install tethering? Could I chose a backup before I'd done the 3.1 install?

Also, please...Once you Jailbreak, can you go back? If so, what would be recommended for 3.1 to jailbreak the phone. I assume once jailbroken, Apple Genius people wouldn't touch your iPhone?

Thanks for your help and support! Now stop laughing!!!

Yes, it is possible to downgrade your firmware to 3.0, but you had to have let Cydia capture your ECID SHSH. I have not seen any other way for this to happen, since Apple is no longer signing the 3.0 firmware. There are steps online for doing this (maybe check thebigboss.org).

If you did manage to revert back to 3.0, I'm sure a restore from pre-3.1 would work fine, but don't quote me on that, as I haven't tried it.

I used blackra1n to jailbreak mine, 3.1.2 firmware. Quick, easy and I don't have a need to unlock my phone. If you ever have to take it in to Apple, you would need to restore to the stock firmware. Hope this helps some...

Thanks so much. I'm not jailbroken. I just know nothing about undoing a jailbreak. Is it true that Apple Genius people will not touch a jailbroken phone? I had speaker problems and they replaced the phone once. Just thinking of what might happen should something else go wrong? My phone seems quite a more of a battery hog on 3.1, I hate to update any more, and had problems with both 3.0 and 3.1 firmware updates, having to let a guy at the genius bar fix what he said was a 'glitch'...well the glitch came back again with 3.1 too, but I was able to do a workaround somehow.

Yeah, to undo a jailbreak, just restore to factory in iTunes. That will download the latest firmware and install it. I don't think that they (the folks at the Genius Bar) will, because they'll say something to the effect of it voiding the warranty, or "you did this software modification, which is what caused this hardware malfunction" - which is never really the case. As for the battery, I haven't noticed any difference in mine after going to 3.1.2. I can get about 1 1/2 - 2 days on mine, with moderate usage. Just make sure that you turn off WiFi if you're not using it. I've heard/read that some people even turn off Location Services, but I never notice a difference with that.

I have the same Problem, I purchased IPhone 3G with 3.0. I upgraded it to 3.1 from Itune on my PC, I immediately Lost the Phone service then I restore to Factory Settings in Itune, then i lost everything even the start Page on Iphone, Even the Phone and Ipode Icon. I gave this phone to one technician here in Riyadh, i don't know what he did, I got my Phone back with everything working but the Phone service (Showing No Service).

Please i beg you to help . I need your preciouse help fix this issue.

Please Remember, I am very much new user to use Iphone and don't know even what is Jailbreak.

Looking for your Help.

The "No Service" would seem to be related to the carrier file not being updated, or not being present at all. If you go to Settings - General - About. You should see your network carrier listed. If not, you will need to update the carrier file via iTunes, or possibly bring it to the Genius bar and notify them about this. I had this problem once before, but I updated the carrier file via iTunes and that resolved the issue. Hope that helps.

Hi,
I really appriciated your prompt answer.

I checked as advised,

Network = No Network
Carrier = Carrier 4.0

I consult another forum and i saw that If i have Modem Firmware = 05.11.07 then my phone will not work there is no crack or unlock is available for them.

By the way, even after installing 3.0 from redsn0w, version in Settings - > general - > Version never change to 3.0, it is always 3.1.

Is ther any other application which can download 3.0 successfully.
Following is the File i am installing in my iphone

iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw

If i need to install the carrier file , from where i can get that?

Please advise.

Aqeel Ahmad.

That is the correct file for a 3.0 restore, but Apple isn't signing those any longer. You would have to have let Cydia store your ECID SHSH file on their server, and have your Windows/Mac hosts file redirect to it. If that wasn't done, I don't know of another way to downgrade successfully to 3.0.
