Although I'm not experiencing the keyboard lag (just the home screen lag), I don't think it has anything to do with the differences between the 3G and the 3GS. I believe it has to do with the jailbreak, or possibly the combination of jailbreak and some non-appstore app.

Just for the record, the getting-to-the-home-screen lag doesn't happen every time, just about two-thirds of the time.

Ya know, considering the way Apple gives forceful little hints that they want you to be up-to-date with their devices(i.e. no mms on v1 iPhones), I really wouldn't be that surprised if they planned it that way. Purposefully make all of our phones slower, so that we would have to upgrade...

Step 1. Turn off your iPhone.

Step 2. Hold down the power and home button.

Step 3. When you see the Apple logo, release the power button but continue holding the home button down.

Step 4. Open iTunes and wait for it to tell you that its in restore mode.

Then, try to restore/update it again. Hope this helps.

I just bought a new iphone 3g, which I first can activate at the end of the month, and I want to minimize my risks for a worse performing iphone.
Has anyone of you guys (and girls) tried installing the 3.0 on an iphone 3g right from the box? I've read of so many that has had problems with their iphone after installing the 3.0 upgrade, so I was just wondering if some of you has had any problems after upgrading a new iphone 3g.

Yes I could not connect to wifi at all so got a replacement phone from apple it had firmware 2.2 it connected fine to my wifi TP-Link N type router.

I installed 3.0 yes i have copy paste but now it will connect to my router say its connected then soon as any app on phone need to use internet it drops wifi for a slower connection.

I found out 3.0 does NOT work on any N type router.

if I knew that I would not have done the update.

I also work using wifi scanner guns from a large wallmart - Asds store
before update I could detect 98 wifi connections after update "0".

I also found out that 3GS has the same fault.

I wish i bought any other touch phone like the nokia N97
apple have screwd up with 3.0 and I hope folk read this and go else where for there phone I wish I did its a pile of crap without wifi.

3G is very slow at times and customer end care sucks.
there should have been a fix weeks ago.

BigT - I find your posts so annoyingly inaccurate that I had to reply to this one in pretty much the same manner i did about your post in the 3g section.

Have you actually tried every N type router?? I have this http://www.apogeesource.com/liulrapl.html router and my 3GS running 3.0 and 3.1 beta connects to this absolutely fine.

Also you say Apple's "customer end care sucks" - I presume you mean Apple's after sales care? If this is the case I have to disagree. I have always found the genius' helpful and will do anything they can within reason to rectify a problem.

I called in 2 days ago without an appointment with an overheating 3GS. Even though they were booked up, a genius sat down and checked my phone and replaced it within 25 minutes. Im yet to see customer service like it from any other company.

My iphone 3G is running OS 3.1, beta 2 and works with every wifi device I have encountered including my brand new Airport extreme. I have not encountered a router that I have not been able to connect to and that has included a few "N" routers......

Perhaps you have not entered the password correctly ( if security was enabled)?
