So I was going to restore my phone to factory settings then jailbreak, but it won't let me do it! I get an error.
I did remember though that when I first JB my phone, I used QuickPWN, this time I tried PwngeTool. I am going to give QuickPWN another shot and we will see how it goes.
EDIT::::I just used QuickPWN and worked flawlessly. I would not recommend PwngeTool. Lincoln, have you ever ran into problems with PwnageTool?

I always use PwnageTool. I need the advanced options (boot logos, root partition resizing, etc.). Never had any major problems with it.
I am considering jailbreaking my iPhone and have a few questions. First of all, here is my environment:
iPhone 3G (16Gb) OS 2.1
Windows Vista 64-bit
My questions are (in no particular order):
Once JB'ed, will my iPhone 3G need to be activated for AT&T?
What about battery life? Does a JB iPhone 3G exhibit worse battery life as compared to a non-JB iPhone?
Will my downloaded AppStore apps still work after JB'ing?
Will I still be able to download new AppStore apps after JB'ing?
Assuming I will be able to continue using AppStore apps, will I still be able to download updates to these apps when they become available?
Will I lose existing data from the apps that I've installed from AppStore? If so, is there any way to preserve that data?
When a new OS version from Apple is released, how do I update my JB'ed iPhone? I assume that I have to wait for a new JB version to be released for the new OS version. Once I get the new JB version, do I restore to factory OS, update via iTunes as usual, and then JB again with the new JB software? Then do I have to reload all my apps (AppStore and others) again? If so, will I lose data from these apps?
Is there a comprehensive FAQ on this topic (not just for "how" to JB, but for everything else you can or can't do with a JB'ed phone)?
Thanks!

When jailbreaking, you will be asked if you are a legit AT&T customer. Answer yes, and you'll have no problems in that department.
This depends on what you install. If you leave SSH running in the background, for instance, your battery life will be decreased greatly. However, SHS can be turned off in an app called BossPrefs.
Yes.
Absolutely.
Yep.
Negative.
When a new OS is available, you can simply update and your phone will be restored in the process. When the update is done, everything installed when you were jailbroken (not legit material, such as AppStore apps, but unofficial apps) will be wiped and you will be asked to restore form your backup. Do this, and all of your data (Notes, Texts, Call Logs, App Data, etc.) comes back. Do a sync and all of your AppStore apps return.
Our Modifications Forum is a great place to start. Some other places to look are ModMyi, and HackThatPhone.
I miss having my iPhone jailbroken. I've decided that over the weekend i will jailbreak it again cause I really really miss the themes and stack, But last Time I was jail broken only 1.1.4 was out so I could imagine everything that has changed.

in order to use cydia, its not enough to have your iphone unlocked, it HAS to be j/b??
is that right? Because i have an iphone locked right now to a carrier in australia but they do provide an unlocking service. i also read somewhere else in this forum that in order to unlock, it has to be jailbroken. that means that if your phone is unlocked, it is j/b? is that right? and so if your phone is unlocked, can you still reap the benefits of cydia?

All I know is that I use Cydia and my phone is not unlocked. It is jailbroken, but not unlocked.

Well, there are two kinds of "unlocked" now. There's officially unlocked by your carrier, which does not jailbreak your phone, so you cannot use Cydia. Then there's unofficial unlocking, which is done via software and is not supported by Apple. In order for this to happen, the device must be jailbroken and you can use Cydia.
