After sucessfully jailbreaking your phone, how does this effect your ability to download new updates/firmware from apple? Must you restore your phone back to normal everytime you want to update? And or must you repeat the jailbreak process everytime a new update/firmware is installed? Or is jailbreaking a one time process?are there any drawbacks to a succesfully operating a jailbreak phone? If my phone is already activated w/ AT&T should I have any problems with my activation after jailbreaking? Sorry for all the questions;I just bought a 3G 8g 2.0 (win xp pc), and wanted to know how deep the water is before diving in head first. BTW, after jailbreaking is it possible to download flash player? Has anyone been successful obtaining flash , and where can I find the procedure?

Every time Apple releases a firmware update, you should wait and see if it's safe to upgrade. If confirmed it is, all of the modifications - be it themes, apps, anything that you received through jailbreaking - will disappear. You will then have to wait a few weeks for the current firmware to be jailbroken. In other words, jailbreak is not a irreversible process; you can undo it any time by performing a Restore in iTunes.

Jailbreaking can present problems. When doing it, you are modifying parts of the system that are not intended to be tampered with. Therefore, the phone may become unstable, may crash, and be vulnerable to unwanted connections (hackers).

So long as you choose not to "unlock" the iPhone, AT&T users are perfectly safe.

Flash is completely unavailable on a stock or a jailbroken iPhone. There is no location to download or install it.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

I'd like to note - unlocking an iPhone's baseband (radio) has NO effects on the security of it.

at all.

the iPhone is scary secure already, and when the programs unlock it, they close those doors back up.

and hacking into the baseband of the phone (which is the only thing touched) will have absolutely no effect for hackers.

you can't control it through the baseband only, you would need an SSH connection - which is somewhat unsecure, yes, but that's why you turn SSH off when you don't need it.

Good day

What else does the error say, and and part in the process does it give this error?

You may have gotten a corrupt 2.0.1 IPSW - try re-downloading it from another location; I suggest Apple's website.

In my case, I restored from the Backup to get all my settings back. Then I had to set it up as a new phone to get back to the normal screen where you can sync everything.
