This guide hasn't been updated in months, and does not give instructions on jailbreaking several more recent firmware versions, including 3.0, nor does it speak of the 3GS. Therefore, until I can finish updating the post to go along with the 3GS, 3.0, etc., I'm locking this thread.

Edit: Okay, done. The post is now updated with guides on jailbreaking the new software & hardware, includes topics new to the jailbreaking community like Icy, and a section on theming.

Excellent review on jailbreak. I enjoyed your part by part discussion and all the pictures you uploaded here. It is a very helpful. Jailbreaking is the process of installing any beautiful or cool apps in iphone.

this may have been answered in the board, but i asked this chick at the applestore about it...just making converstation, and she said that they can tell if you jailbreak it because it sets the firmware off by like .1 and they can tell...she said they reject phone with apple care and everything quite often.
Is this true at all?
i would assume she is lying becuase she WORKS at a apple store..but who knows? girls have been lying to me my whole life!

I can't give you a solid answer, but I'd say sometimes they can tell, sometimes they can't. I can tell you Geniuses have utilities on their Macs that aren't available to the public that they use when working on iPhones that they most likely use to try and check for evidence of a jailbreak. However, I've heard stories of people that were jailbroken, then restored their devices, and had no problem with receiving service on their phones at the Apple Store.

Lincoln,

Good work keeping this updated. I do have one suggestion. You link all the guides but don't have one listed for 3G 3.0. You can get to it by clicking on the 3GS one but I think actually having the link on the first page would be easier.

Thanks for the catch. I was also missing guides for the V1 iPhone on 3.0, but they're all in there now.

What do these icons look like? What is the text displayed below each one? How many are you talking about? To what "certain page" are you redirected?

I probably won't post a guide for 3.0.1, seeing as firmware 3.1 will be released sometimes soon, and it contains the fix for the SMS vulnerability as well. I'll post the 3.1 guide, and people can just update to it before performing the jailbreak.

Maybe this has already been answered but I really don’t want to read 17 pages of post to find it. I have a few questions about jailbreaking my IPhone. 1) Do you still sync everything with ITunes? 2) Are you able to get all of the available updates off ITunes? 3) Are you still able to use all the apps you buy from ITunes? 4) Does this also cover the new 3.0.1 version? Thanks for the help.
