If I restore from a backup will I still have all my old apps from when I restored or does it only backup selected information?

You still have to sync your apps back on, that just restores your settings.

So when I go to iTunes and then applications I should have a list of my apps right? Because I don't. I'm just taking all precautions before jailbreaking my new 3gs. Don't want anything happening to it. Thanks.

You should see them in iTunes. Have you sync'd the phone with that computer yet?

I recommend waiting to jailbreak. There are way too many problems with JB app compatibility in 3.0 right now.

    Do tell.

Are you saying there are issues with JB'ing the new 3GS? or with a 3G running 3.0?

I have a 3G with 2.2.1 (Jailbroken) and am going to upgrade to 3.0, then jailbreak it. I'm also on Windows. I plan on using RedSn0w. What should I look out for?

    Thanks!

I have jailbroken my 3G, running 3.0, using redsn0w. My SMS app won't change when a theme is active. Anyone have any ideas?

I have a question, is it true itunes charges a person to update their firmware? The reason I ask is my grandson asked me about jailbreaking his touch and said he has to pay for 3.0. If that's the case how can he install it before jailbreaking ?

The JB for the 3GS has not been released yet.

I ended up jailbreaking and unlocking my 3G the day after I wrote that. PWNage Tool works fine, it's just that a lot of the apps in Cydia aren't compatible with 3.0 yet. There's a thread on 3.0 JB app compatibilty here.

    Gotcha. Thanks.

I have since upgraded my jailbroken 3G (2.2.1) to v3.0 and then jailbreaking again.

For those that are doing something similar, be aware that Backgrounder is not compatible with 3.0 JB. I made that mistake (of installing Backgrounder). Not only does it not enable backgrounding of an app, just having it installed without using it will drastically drain your battery.
