Default What is Administrative Password to be used?

First off, Thanks to Lincoln for the very well written tutorial on Jailbreaking Apple I phone 3G Ver 3.1.2.

In step 9, what is the Administrative Password u r referring to? I have not set any password on the phone.

My phone currently uses Mac OS 3.1. It has been unlocked earlier. I read some where that if I install Ver 3.1.2 now, the phone gets locked again with the earlier carrier. If so, how to unlock again?

I have an I Phone 3G & I want to jailbreak my phone without upgrading to 3.1.2 if that can be done to avoid all these complications..

Thanks if someone can chip in.

I think the administrative password is alpine by default, unless you changed it.

When you SSH, username is root. Don't know if it's the same.

So, no consensus? May b the author can help.

"My phone currently uses Mac OS 3.1. It has been unlocked earlier. I read some where that if I install Ver 3.1.2 now, the phone gets locked again with the earlier carrier. If so, how to unlock again?"
Any comments on this please?

Thanks.

You can upgrade to 3.1.2 and jailbreak/unlock with no complications at all. Just use PwnageTool (Mac) or Blackra1n (Windows & Mac).

Steps:

1 - Blacksn0w (Windows) - http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=5886

2 - PwnageTool (Mac):

A. Jailbreak using this http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=4254

B. Unlock using this (after jailbreaking, of course) http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=4253

I've never used Blackra1n but I used PwnageTool and it's great.

Since my computer runs on windows, perhaps the right link to follow is :

http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=5886

"Before continuing make sure you are on the 05.11.07 baseband by following this tutorial. If you are not please update your firmware to 3.1.2 using iTunes before continuing."

I am on the 05.11.07 baseband (In my phone, It is listed as modem firmware in settings>> General >> About) but my software version is 3.1.
Should I now upgrade to ver 3.1.2?

"I've never used Blackra1n but I used PwnageTool and it's great."

Is there a pwnage tool for use in windows also?
"
