Default Update 3.0 with a T-mobile 1st gen.

Hi,
I'm sure this has been addressed and already answered somewhere here, but I can't find anything. I have a 1st gen. iPhone, unlocked/jailbroken with 2.2 firmware, using T-mobile.

Can I update it and keep it unlocked to use with t-mobile? If so, where can I find instructions for this. I used big boss in the past when updating, unlocking, etc. but not sure if he has a guide for this yet.

Thanks,

Laina

I was in the same boat as you. I was running 2.1 on a 1 gen iPhone. I update via iTunes to 3.0. I was still unlocked but it seems that I'm not jailbroken anymore. I haven't looked into redoing everything again so I'm content with this configuration.

Hope this helps.

Yes, you can update your OS, then re-jailbreak/unlock and use with t-mobile.

You really don't need directions if you update with iTunes. Under the iPhone in iTunes, there be a button that says update software. Or something similar. Hit that button, say the magic words, sprinkle a little pixie dust on the phone and presto chango!

I know how to update in iTunes, but I am not an AT&T customer, so if I just update in iTunes, my phone will not be able to use with T-mobile. I need a guide to tell me how to update, and also keep my phone unlocked and jailbroken or re-unlock to use with T-mobile. Thanks.

From what I have read updating the firmware will undo the jailbreak on your phone. Probably the best way to do it would be to update to 3.0, and then re-jailbreak and unlock the phone. Search for redsn0w, that is a utility that can jailbreak and they also have a utility to unlock the phone so that you would still be able to use it with T-Mobile.

I'm just a newbie though so make sure you do your research! lol. Good luck.

you must not be saying the magic words.

You can update with iTunes even if you are on tmobile. It will not lock you up. You will still be on tmobile and serveice will not be interrupted. The only cat h is that you won't be jailbroken.

I'm in 3.0 with tmobile on a 1st gen. I updated with iTunes from 2.1. I'm still up and running. Just not jailbroken.
