SUCCESS! My iPhone 3G is Now Jailbroken Using the Pwnage Tool

No, not at the moment. For now, only jailbraking is available for the 3G.

I have a problem when I restore with the custom ipsw that Pwnage makes.. it says Itunes error 6. Also when I check on Library/iTunes there is no folder "DeviceSupport". Anyone know whats wrong with my attempt to jailbreak. Also after Pwnage tool makes the custom ipsw.. it fails to go to DFU mode. Ive tried puttin my phone in dfu mode and it still says the error. Does this have anything to do with the custom ipsw not working when I restore?

While the 3g IPhone can only be jailbroken on a MAC right now, you can take any AT&T sim and place it in the 3G iPhone and you will get service. I can take my wife's V1 sim, put it in my 3G iPhone and willl get a signal. I even put a V3xx sim in and got full bars. No unlock needed for AT&T sim switching.

That is correct. I can even use my GoPhones sim in my 3G iPhone and get 3G service with my $29 GoPhone plan.

Could someone please post a custom .ipsw for the 3G made in PwnageTool 2.0 with the active box unchecked in expert options? The one I found floating around I guess had the activate box checked since when I restored I got no service at all. I cannot get this tool to run to make my own and would much appreciate this file since I am on AT&T. Thanks a bunch!

Open Terminal, then do:

cd ~/Library/iTunes
mkdir "Device Support"

Then try PwnageTool again

This worked for me!

Error 6 means you're not in DFU mode.

The iphone's screen will go white for a bit when you're properly in DFU mode.

Took me a couple tries, for some reason DFU got a bit trickier to engage in 2.0.

Also, if you want Pwnage to get you into DFU, you need the "Device Support" folder to be present, with nothing inside of it. Delete whatever is there with each failed attempt, and also, make sure there is a space between Device and Support.
