Service after unlocking Iphone

Here is my dilemma i have an unlocked 3g iphone. It has been unlocked through pwnage. I now have access to the itouch but no service to the iphone. When putting in different sim cards it says no sim card installed. I am located in Japan right now. I know that its hard to use outside phones here in japan. I was wondering if i take my phone to indonesia, thailand or even the US will the iphone work there once i have installed a sim card?
