PWN didn't work! Phone now not working- URGENT! - iPhone 3G

I have (had) an iPhone that was ZiPhoned to 1.1.4 (from an otb 1.1.2) which was working fine except that I got a bad wifi connection and wrecked Installer. I got advice on this forum to re-jailbreak so now I have stable wifi, I used PwnageTool 1.1.
Oh dear! First the phone went through the pwn process and restarted exactly as it had been before the pwn (and Installer still didn't work so I guessed it hadn't been replaced)! I tried again but same result. I tried again, this time after trying to Restore using iTunes to clean Restore but then the Pineapple and jumping Steve screens alternated on screen and stopped iTunes doing the Restore. But problem is that PwnageTool didn't restore either and the so now my iPhone doesn't have the old setup nor any useable new one. When I try to start the phone it shows the Pineapple screen for a while then the Steve jumping screen... and that's it. It won't go any further and only force reboot will start that 2-screen process again.

By the way, I may have failed to put the phone properly into Recovery Mode as I seem to have forgotten how because it's so long since I needed it (I thought it was holding don On/Off and Home buttons for 15 seconds then release Home button and it boots up with the iTunes and cable screen??) Also tried the turning off then plugging in with Home button pressed but ultimately same results - no functional iPhone!

Please help. I'm sure it's something simple but I guess I've panicked and can't see clearly as I need my phone running and now it doesn't.

you were on about holding your buttons for 15seconds?! try holding them in until something happens i know this may sound stupid but it works for me when my phone freezes! after say 15-20 seconds of keeping them constantly held you SHOULD get the connect to itunes icon!
have you tried to restore through ziphone as well? cos if that works then restore through itunes and set up as a totally new phone

let me know how you get on!

and they say ziphone is messed up,restore it in itunes again, and use ziphone to jailbrake it

Yeah, I tried to do that (and just tried again) but... when trying to go into Recovery Mode I can only get the PwnageTool pineapple logo on screen. Then iTunes says it's recognised an iPhone in Recovery Mode, I go to the ipsw on my computer which I've always used before (have also tired just letting go to the Apple update site) but then it just keeps flashing between the pineapple and the white Apple logo, and then gives the message "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1611)" and ends up just showing the full-screen 'Steve-waving-his-arms' icon. That's it.
I can't seem to restore it to original through the manual restore system so even ZiPhone can't do its thing - it's as though PwnageTool has locked everything else out, including iTunes.

Confused... and frustrated as this is meant to be so straight forward.

I've just tried again using PwnageTool 1.0 instead of 1.1 but same result EXCEPT that the phone just rebooted into the previous setup, completely as useable as it was before trying to do this re-jailbreak with PwnageTool. I then tried to do the Restore thing again with iTunes (how brave am I???) but same thing - just refuses then shows the pineapple on screen.
But then about 1 minute later it goes back to the screen of my previous useable setup! (ie before this re-jailbreak attempt.) This is getting more and more weird. At least the iPhone is useable in the interim... but I really want to Restore it properly and re-jailbreak it if only I could get iTunes to see past the PwnageTool pineapple logo and do a full Restore manually.
Help please because the phone is still only a compromise without a Restore. That is, my reasons for wanting to re-jailbreak it in the first place are still present... disfunctional Installer etc.

I've now managed to activate/jailbreak/unlock again with ZiPhone 3.0 but now have wifi issues - wifi worked at first for a short time but now Safari keeps saying it can't find the server and Installer will not install anything saying it can't find the server. My laptop has no problem on the same wifi network finding the same site/s as I've tried with the iPhone.

I never had these problems before when I used ZiPhone 2.6 (or maybe earlier one) for my original activate/jailbreak/unlock.

Okay, I assumed you were using windows, since you used Ziphone.

hmm....thats really odd. I had the opposite experience.

Used ziphone to unlock and nothing worked right afterwards. Wifi and Edge did not work at all. I Restored it and used Pwnage and everything worked like a charm.
