I would first try turning it off, and then plugging it in to the cable connected to either a USB source, or the AC adapter and letting it power up on it's own. May take 2-3 tries. After that, if it's still stuck at the apple logo ( longer than 5 minutes) I would restore. To turn it off, press and hold the Sleep/Power button on top till the screen shuts down

The following is instructions to restore your phone - ALL DATA NOT BACKED UP WILL BE LOST!
Hold the power button in till the phone turns off.
Press and hold both the power button and the home button until the Apple logo appears and then ONLY release the Power button. - Continue holding the the home key until you get the "Connect to iTunes" logo.
Connect to your PC and launch iTunes. Hold down the left shift key and click the restore button in iTunes. (this is for windows users) Locate the firmware version IPSW file that you want to restore to and double-click.
Once the phone is finished restoring, it will then ask to restore your last backup to the phone. After that, you will need to synch to get your music and videos back.

ubfortunately, after 1.1.2 or 1.1.3, you HAVE to be connected to power to enter restore mode.

so you must first connect to computer, then follow hawks steps.

I thought that was only to enter the "soft reset" mode for the original 1.1.4 jailbreak? Not that I am going to try it out, but...

Alright I go it to work, but why do I have to press Shift and then Restore. Couldn't I just press Restore?
